Cadillac Lyriq Rival BMW iX Dropped In The U.S.

The BMW iX is being retired from the US market, which could be considered a competitor to the Cadillac Lyriq, although it is more expensive. The German automaker will soon add the next-generation, fully electric BMW iX3 to its lineup of EV utility vehicles.

According to BMW BlogProduction of the iX for the US has ended, but it will continue to be built for other markets. During calendar year 2025, BMW delivered 12,587 units of the iX across the United States, down 18 percent compared to 2024. However, in Q1 2026, sales totaled 3,626 units, down 50 percent compared to the first quarter of 2026. Cadillac sold 20,971 units of the Lyriq in 2025, down 26 percent compared to last year. 2024, and recorded 3,370 deliveries in Q1 2026, down 21 percent year over year.

Fresh off a mid-cycle refresh after launching in 2021 as a 2022 model, the 2026 BMW iX is available in three levels. The base xDrive45 is equipped with a dual-motor powertrain that produces 402 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, enabling a 0-to-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds. The 100.1 kWh battery pack provides a driving range of up to 312 miles on a full charge. The xDrive60 produces 536 horsepower and 564 pound-feet, for a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, while the 113.4 kWh battery allows for a range of up to 341 miles.

There’s also the high-performance iX M70, a direct rival to the Cadillac Lyriq-V. It produces 650 horsepower and 749 pound-feet of torque, good for a 0-to-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds. Its 112.8 kWh battery provides a driving range of up to 302 miles.

The iX and Lyriq are similar in size and weight, although the BMW gets a larger cargo area at 35.5 cubic feet, compared to the Lyriq’s 28 cubic feet trunk. However, the costs are not the same. The iX starts at $76,600, while the M70 performance variant opens bidding at $112,590. In contrast, the 2026 Cadillac Lyriq starts at $64,495 with AWD, while the Lyriq-V is available from $80,390.

Instead, the automaker unveiled the 2027 BMW iX3, based on its new dedicated Neue Klasse EV architecture and powered by Gen6 eDrive technology. The iX3 will arrive next fall in 50 xDrive trim, packing 463 horsepower, a 108 kWh battery and an EPA-estimated range of around 400 miles, along with a base price tag of $60k. However, the iX3 would be a more suitable rival to the Cadillac Optiq than the Lyriq.
