New BMW Models 2026

Posted on

BMW didn’t set a sales record last year, but with 2,169,739 vehicles delivered worldwide, the figure is only about 83,000 units shy of the all-time high achieved in 2023. Once again, BMW comfortably outperformed arch-rivals Mercedes and Audi in the luxury sales race and is now looking at a solid 2026.

The company’s online store accidentally revealed all the models coming to the United States, revealing some familiar names as well as some surprising new entries. All of the following models will be officially launched this year or have already been launched, but some may not launch in North America until 2027.

Here’s what will happen.

BMW i3: Electric 3 Series Leads the Charge

Introduced a few weeks ago, the new i3 sedan is at the forefront of BMW’s 2026 product offensive. The first electric sedan in the reborn Neue Klasse range promises a range of up to 440 miles on a single charge. This aims to eliminate range concerns and bring charging times closer to those of gas-powered cars, thanks to 400 kW charging.

Despite the reveal, the i3 won’t enter production until August, so deliveries won’t start until this fall. Unsurprisingly, European countries will be early adopters, with deliveries to America set to begin next year. The 2027 i3 50 xDrive will be the launch version, but the cheaper 2027 i3 40 xDrive briefly appeared on the company’s US webstore.

BMW is already shipping the iX3 electric crossover to European buyers, but Americans will have to wait a little longer. Full pricing details have not been announced, only that it will start at around $60,000. Pricing will be announced at the end of this month or early May, according to a report from <a rel=Bimmer Post.

By June, most dealers will have the iX3 on their lots, and the configurator is also expected to be up and running by then. Series production for the US market begins in early September, with first deliveries likely in late September or early October. The iX3 50 xDrive will be the only version available at launch, but the leak also lists two additional variants for the 2027 model year: the 40 sDrive and the 40 xDrive.

BMW 7 Series: Facelift Debuting Soon

Chronologically, the first new BMW we haven’t seen yet is the 2027 7 Series. The facelifted luxury sedan premieres later this month at the Beijing Auto Show, featuring an updated exterior that retains the large kidney grille and split headlights. The changes will freshen up the luxobarge, but the design will remain evolutionary rather than revolutionary, unlike the iX3 and i3.

The 7 Series will adopt the new iDrive system first seen on the two electric models, featuring a central touchscreen and Panoramic Vision. The latter is a pillar-to-pillar projection at the base of the windshield, with three fixed tiles in the driver’s line of sight that effectively replace the instrument cluster. Six additional widgets on the right are customizable, allowing the driver to choose which information is displayed.

Another BMW model confirmed to debut soon is the new X5. The fifth generation of Munich’s original SUV will be launched this summer. As a next-generation model and not a mid-cycle update, it will fully adopt the Neue Klasse design language. It will also inherit the new in-car technology, meaning the iDrive rotary knob will soon be discontinued.

Somewhat surprisingly, the rear-wheel drive variant will remain. The X5 40 sDrive was listed as a 2027 model year entry before BMW removed the page. More importantly, a fully electric X5 has been officially confirmed, with the initial version likely to be the iX5 60 xDrive. Pictured above in prototype form, a hydrogen version will follow in 2028.

BMW 3 Series: The Combustion Engine Gets Closer

Later this year, BMW will also launch a new gas-powered 3 Series. Prototypes show the car will be very similar to the i3, but with a longer front end to accommodate the combustion engine. One version lined up for the 2027 model year is the M350 xDrive, which is expected to replace the M340i while retaining the six-cylinder engine.

Since production won’t start until later this year, there likely won’t be any deliveries to the US in 2026. Expect a more affordable version of the 3 Series with a four-cylinder engine, and hopefully the rear-wheel-drive layout will stick around into the next generation.

BMW M2: Now With All-Wheel Drive

It’s common knowledge that the M2 will receive the xDrive treatment. Like the other models mentioned, this all-wheel-drive performance coupe is accidentally listed as a 2027 model. We expect it to be automatic only, but purists need not worry: the rear-wheel-drive M2 will continue to offer a manual transmission.

It will be interesting to see if the M2 xDrive adopts the 2WD mode of its bigger sibling. On the M3 and M4 with all-wheel drive, turning off electronic stability control allows the driver to switch to a pure rear-wheel drive setting. While the added weight of AWD is inevitable, it can be hard to notice considering the standard M2 isn’t particularly light to begin with.

Its combustion-powered counterpart will not join the iX4. BMW has decided not to update the ICE version, instead focusing only on the fully electric model.
