The automaker’s South American subsidiary unveiled the all-new 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover on April 21st in Brazil as Chevrolet’s world premiere and the brand’s most important launch in the region this calendar year. The 2027 Sonic crossover was introduced to the South American country, bringing a new coupe-like look to the subcompact utility vehicle market with a bold design, improved driving dynamics and enhanced refinement.

“The Sonic has proven to be a strategic car for Chevrolet, with the potential to win a growing base of loyal customers and attract new, youthful audiences to the brand, something that is fundamental to the company’s growth plans,” said GM South America Marketing Director Gustavo Aguiar. “For this group, the car ceases to be just a means of transportation and becomes a code of ownership, where the SUV coupe silhouette, more imposing stance and richness of product details take center stage,” he added.

Based on the same platform and body structure as the Chevy Onix hatchback, the 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover features a new look with unique front and rear designs, higher ground clearance, lower plastic cladding and larger wheels for a rugged appearance. The front adopts the brand’s latest global SUV design language with a split grille and sophisticated headlight design, while introducing the brand’s new global logo Bowtie.

Aesthetically, the 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover stands out with its signature lighting, reinforcing the model’s identity with integrated daytime running lights and turn signals, high-intensity projector headlamps and minimalist fog lamps integrated into the lower bumper. The rear design is inspired by the Chevy Equinox EV, featuring a horizontal arrangement of elements and a three-dimensional LED light bar.

The 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover just made its world debut in Brazil and will soon be launched in the country’s domestic market, where sales are scheduled to begin in the first half of May. GM has not revealed powertrain details for the 2027 Sonic, but it is expected to use the same engine as the Chevy Onix, which is produced at the same high-volume GM Gravataí plant to supply South America and other potential global markets.
