The highest-volume automaker’s brand officially announced that the 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover was created and designed as a global project, with development led by GM South America’s Brazil-based engineering team. The new 2027 Sonic crossover not only revives the Sonic nameplate and introduces the latest evolution of Chevrolet’s global logo, but as a global project, it could span multiple regions around the world.

“While the all-new Chevrolet Sonic is a global project, development of this new vehicle is being led by GM South America,” Chevrolet Brazil said in a statement. “The team applied the most advanced engineering tools in a completely virtual design process, powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities,” the brand added.

The 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover, as a global vehicle project, was developed by GM South America in collaboration with several of the company’s engineering teams around the world. While the automaker did not specify which technical companies are participating in the project or the potential international markets it might cover, it has dedicated technical centers with global capabilities in the United States, China and South Korea.

In addition, the company is also leveraging the most advanced technology development tools, including artificial intelligence-based design resources.

The new 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover will make its global debut in the coming days in Brazil, and will start arriving at dealers in the first half of May. So far, the company has confirmed that the 2027 Sonic crossover will begin production at GM’s Gravataí plant in Brazil, which has high-volume production capacity to supply the region and other potential international export markets.
