Although we’d be willing to bet that, on balance, there are more good, honest mechanics out there than there are bad, dishonest ones. However, it’s still important to trust your instincts when looking for a reputable repair shop for your vehicle. Now, a new story has come to light that may deter some owners from making a deal that sounds “too good to be true,” after a Chevy Camaro owner spent thousands of dollars and waited six months only to find their car parked outside a local bar one day.

According to the latest report from FOX4 News Kansas CityThe story begins with a father and son who want to restore their 1995 Chevy Camaro Z/28. The car has sentimental value, because the father once owned a Camaro, while the son bought a ’95 Camaro using his own money.
However, the car needs repairs, so the two find a local mechanic to help them. The story goes that they were then approached by a dealer mechanic who offered to complete the work outside the dealer for a cheaper price. Hoping to save money, they agreed, but after waiting six months and spending $5,400, they said no significant progress had been made in repairing the car.

What’s worse, the son later found the Camaro parked outside a downtown bar, documenting evidence indicating the car was being driven for personal use, including items left inside and signs that might be visible in winter road conditions, raising concerns about how the car was handled.
The owner then confronted the mechanic and demanded answers, as well as a refund. The mechanic denied lending the vehicle to anyone but admitted he had taken it to a muffler repair shop without telling the owner, and stated he was not sure he needed to tell them.

Authorities are now investigating the incident, and the mechanic is reportedly cooperating with law enforcement.
