Chevrolet’s South American subsidiary released details of the 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover, Chevrolet’s upcoming entry-level utility vehicle for the region that will feature a new coupe-like body style for the brand. The company revealed several specifications of the new Sonic 2027, including dimensions, positioning, and the inspiration behind the design.

“Despite being part of a global program, Sonic was designed and led by our team in South America, who brings all our experience in creating mass products designed to meet the real demands of consumers in this region today, but also ready to keep up with the evolution of these needs in the future,” said Chief Product Engineer at GM South America, Fabio Morgan. “And all of this rests on the reliability and solidity of the Chevrolet brand,” he added.

Specifically, GM announced that the new 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover measures 4,230 mm or 166.5 inches long, 1,770 mm or 69.7 inches wide, and 1,530 mm or 60.2 inches tall, although the wheelbase has not been revealed. This will place the 2027 Sonic squarely between the All New Chevy Onix Activ and Chevy Tracker in the brand’s portfolio, which is poised to offer the broadest range of utility vehicles in the regional market with 10 different models to choose from.

In addition to explaining the development process using state-of-the-art digital tools, the company said the advanced design of the 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover was ‘clearly inspired’ by the Chevy Equinox EV. It states that this car has been maintained with a level of precision and detail rarely seen in its class, in every aspect of surface, proportion and styling. The brand also expects it to become a benchmark in the segments of interior space, ergonomics and driving pleasure.

The all-new 2027 Chevy Sonic crossover will debut in Brazil in the second quarter of this year, when it is first introduced to the public and launched simultaneously. Routine production of this model will soon begin at GM’s Gravataí plant in Brazil to supply the Brazilian market and key Latin American countries, making it a major export for GM’s regional subsidiaries.
