GM Files To Trademark V-Series For Cadillac In Brazil

Posted on

General Motors continues to move forward in its global expansion efforts, this time with the possible expansion of its Cadillac performance brand in South America. It turns out, GM Authority has revealed that the automaker recently filed to trademark the V-Series name in Brazil, indicating that new high-performance Cadillac models will eventually be offered in the region.

Based on the trademark application, GM filed an application for the name “V-Series” with registration number 942891880. The application, filed in March 2026, is classified as a word mark and covers goods and services described as terrestrial motor vehicles, namely cars, as translated from Portuguese. The application was submitted to Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), the country’s official intellectual property authority.

Notably, this is the first time GM has filed to trademark the V-Series worldwide since 2014, when the name was registered in Uruguay. Despite being filed, Cadillac was never officially launched in Uruguay, so the trademark was not used in that market.

The timing of this new filing in Brazil is particularly relevant, as Cadillac is just starting to make its presence felt in South America. The luxury brand was officially introduced in Brazil in early 2026, marking the first phase of a wider rollout that is expected to cover additional markets in the region in the near future.

Within Cadillac’s global portfolio, the V Series designation represents the brand’s highest-performance variant, featuring more powerful engines, improved chassis tuning and track-focused engineering. Models like the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and Cadillac Escalade-V are good examples, both of which use a supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 petrol engine while offering performance-oriented upgrades designed to compete with rivals from BMW M and Mercedes-AMG.

Cadillac has also expanded its V-Series lineup to include all-electric models such as the new Lyriq-V and Optiq-V, following a similar formula of more power, sharper handling and more aggressive styling.

For your information, Cadillac is currently also expanding in other global markets, including Europe.
