Just yesterday, GM Authority brings you the latest news that General Motors has finally given the green light to resume purchasing replacements for the Chevy Camaro, which was previously discontinued at the end of the 2024 model year after the last units rolled out in late 2023. Now, GM Authority has learned more news that should help Camaro fans breathe a little easier.
According to GM Authority source, the upcoming Chevy Camaro replacement will do just that No become fully electric. This is definitely a big break from previous rumors that the Camaro could return as an electric crossover.

The decision to stick with internal combustion no doubt reflects current market conditions which show much lower demand for electric vehicles. Likely the biggest factor is the recent expiration of federal electric vehicle tax incentives, while new emissions regulations have reduced pressure on automakers to quickly electrify as many segments as possible. As a result, GM appears to be aligning this new Camaro replacement with traditional ICE-based performance expectations, rather than forcing a transition to batteries and electric motors.
However, for buyers who are still interested in electric performance, Chevrolet has offered alternatives such as the Chevy Blazer EV SS.

For readers who may have missed yesterday’s news, the upcoming Camaro replacement is expected to launch in the 2028 model year, with the first units rolling out in the 2027 calendar year. The new model is expected to ride on the rear-wheel-drive Alpha 2 platform, while production will once again take place at Lansing’s Grand River Assembly. Additionally, the Lansing facility will also produce the next generation Cadillac CT5, plus a new Buick sedan.
For reference, the Camaro offered several gasoline powertrain options for its final 2024 model year, including the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT4. Of course, we’ll have more to say about the new Chevy Camaro replacement in the near future, so as always, keep it tuned for more information. GM Authority for all the latest.
