Cadillac CT5 Hit Wall After Police Grappler Attempt: Video

A high-speed chase involving a Cadillac CT5 in Jurupa Valley, California ended in tragedy this week following a grappler deployment attempt by Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies.

According to reports from ABC7The incident began just after 2 p.m. near the intersection of Pats Ranch Road and Limonite Avenue after police identified a suspect wanted for grand larceny driving a white Cadillac CT5 sedan. After deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, starting a pursuit that ended across several highways and lasted nearly an hour.

The pursuit continued through Jurupa Valley before continuing onto eastbound I-10 and then I-15. At one point, the suspect stopped near Etiwanda Avenue and Bellegrave Avenue, where a standoff ensued, prompting officials to close local schools.

The suspect eventually returned to driving, making contact with spike strips installed by law enforcement. In an attempt to immobilize the vehicle, an officer attempted to use a grapple, which is designed to lock the vehicle’s rear wheels and bring it to a controlled stop.

The grappler failed to engage properly, resulting in the driver losing control of the Cadillac CT5 and crashing into a concrete wall. A nearby resident reportedly saw the vehicle speeding out of control and ran to safety before crashing into a wall.

After the crash, deputies established a perimeter around the heavily damaged Cadillac CT5 and attempted to communicate with the suspect, but after several attempts, contact was lost. After breaking the back window and firing tear gas, officers finally opened the back door and removed the suspect.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene after what was believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident remains under active investigation, and the name of the suspect has not been released for notification of next of kin.
