Staying Alive In Multiple Markets

  • Mazda plans to continue offering the Mazda2 and CX-3, its smallest models.
  • It will develop a next-generation version of the compact car.
  • They won’t arrive before 2027.

It’s been five years since Mazda stopped production of the CX-3 and more than a decade since Mazda stopped production of the CX-3 in the United States. Unfortunately, the company has no plans to bring the model back to America. Despite this, Mazda continues to sell both compact cars in other markets and will likely continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

In an interview with DriveVinesh Bhindi, Mazda Australia boss, told the publication that “there will be a new generation model.” They probably won’t arrive any time soon. Bhindi added, “There’s a list of priorities,” such as the new CX-5, but Bhindi acknowledged the need to freshen up both compact cars.

“I mean, I wish we had endless research and development resources that could do it all at once, but that’s not the case,” he told the publication. It is unlikely that these two new Mazda compact cars will arrive before 2027.

Next Generation Model

When the next-generation Mazda2 and CX-3 models arrive, which currently share the same platform, they will likely borrow styling cues from the X-Coupe concept, a five-door compact hatchback. It debuted using an evolution of the Kodo Mada design language.

Inside, the concept features a driver-focused cabin with a flat-bottom steering wheel and no large dashboard screen. It looks sporty and fun, just like the current 2.

We’ll probably learn more about Mazda’s two smallest offerings in the coming years, but we won’t be able to buy them.
