GM Appoints Former Uber Exec As New Cadillac CMO

General Motors has announced that former Uber executive David Mogensen will take on the role of Chief Marketing Officer at Cadillac. The move brings more experienced tech industry talent to the team as GM continues to lean into software-based features amid Cadillac’s global expansion. Mogensen joins Cadillac after six years at Uber, where he most recently served as Vice President of Global Marketing.

Mogensen’s resume includes top-level positions in the technology and automotive sectors. At Uber, he led global marketing efforts spanning more than 70 countries, overseeing the team responsible for shaping the Uber and Uber Eats brands with a focus on strengthening global presence and customer engagement. Mogensen also directed marketing operations for Uber in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and his work has received recognition from Forbeswhich put him on the list of the 50 most entrepreneurial marketing heads.

Prior to joining Uber, Mogensen held several senior roles at Google, including leading marketing initiatives across Northern Europe, as well as overseeing global B2B product marketing for YouTube, helping grow the platform into a billion-dollar business. Prior to working at Google, Mogensen worked at BMW, where he managed US brand positioning and advertising efforts in the United States.

In a statement shared via LinkedIn, Mogensen expressed his enthusiasm for the new role and reflected on his experience at Uber, noting the company’s evolution into one of the world’s most valuable brands during his tenure. He emphasized his long-standing love of the automotive industry, and described his new role at Cadillac as a career goal shaped in part by his previous experience with BMW. Mogensen also thanked GM’s key leaders, including Mark Reuss, Lin-Hua Wu, and Rory Harvey, for their confidence as he transitions into the position.

Mogensen’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Cadillac, as the brand is in the midst of a major overseas push led by its all-electric portfolio. The new hires also reflect a broader trend within GM, as the automaker continues to recruit executives from leading technology companies, including talent brought in from companies like Apple and Amazon, and more.
