If you haven’t heard the story of MM Enzo, sit down and let me spin the thread for you. Back in the early ’00s, car enthusiast Richard Losee bought a 2003 Ferrari Enzo. Losee had no intention of treating his new Ferrari as an investment, locking it in climate-controlled storage while its value was valued. In fact, he lent his Enzo to Roads & Trails for a full road test that literally puts the first 1,500 miles on the car.
And so begins the story of MM Enzo, which in case you didn’t know it, stands for “Most Miles Enzo.”
Sometime during the early years of ownership, Losee decided he wanted to try to put as many miles as possible on Enzo. He returned to Roads & Trails, collaborated with a magazine to make it a bit impossible long term test car. The cloth added another 10,000 miles during its test, and Losee soon had the Enzo over 30,000 miles.
The story took a dark turn in 2006, though, when Losee entered the Utah Highway Patrol Charity Fast Pass event. During a high-speed run on 14 miles of closed road, Losee hit a deadly stretch that sent him and Enzo airborne at 206 miles per hour. The car was completely destroyed, and Losee spent more than a year recovering from significant injuries.
Amazingly, Losee emerged from the experience with a desire to rebuild Enzo better than ever. The project was started in earnest, and thanks to the contributions of many – including Ferrari North America – the MM Enzo has been completely restored after 30 months of hard work. However, the car did not appear in stock trim. With a new pair of turbos, this rare supercar now makes over 800 horsepower.
With a new car built, Losee decided to chasing land speed records on the Bonneville Salt Plains. After a frustrating day of trying in October 2010, Losee did it with a quality run of 237.1 mph.
After that, MM Enzo’s story fell silent. At some point during its ownership, Losee also ordered a second set of doors with the top removed to make the world’s first and only removable roof Enzo.
However, recently, MM Enzo has been living his best life on Instagram. User @dryl8k is now trying hard, but he doesn’t own a car. Through several arrangements, Losee has loaned the car to @dryl8k, who recently passed 90,000 miles on the odometer. The feat is remarkable, considering that only 493 units were ever built. And we know of several Enzos that have sadly perished and never been rebuilt like this.
We’ll be looking forward to when the MM Enzo hits 100,000 miles. When that happens, we suspect someone will ask the inevitable question: Does the Enzo’s MM grade work? to the top isn’t it down because of its unique history and achievements?
