2023 BMW M2 Spy Shot Catches Coupe With Wild Exhaust And Big Wing

The BMW M2 is just the beginning of the brand’s high performance aspirations for the model. BMW will design a cooler version and offer the coupe with a series of upgrades. A new spy shot from berlin_cars on Instagram captures the car with some new exterior parts that we haven’t seen on the M2 before.

The photo captures the car wearing large wings in the trunk high enough to interfere with the rear window. This isn’t the only coupe kit that’s been exaggerated. Under the wing is a BMW M Performance exhaust, which features a tilted quad exhaust tip. We’ve seen it offered for the M3 and M4, and it looks like it will arrive as an upgrade for the M2. The exhaust pops through a more aggressive rear diffuser that looks more angular than the bumpers we’ve seen on other test vehicles.

BMW is likely to test parts before they make their way into the M Performance catalogue, giving M2 owners a variety of ways to upgrade their cars. One area the owner may not want to modify is the powertrain. There’s nothing official about the powertrain, but rumors point to a vehicle sporting a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six driving the rear wheels. They suggested that the detuned engine would produce at least 400 horsepower (294 kilowatts) in the standard configuration, with the Competition M2 perhaps producing as much as 430 hp (316 kW).

Previous spy shots have revealed that the new M2 will have an aggressive front-end design. However, BMW will provide the car with a normal-sized grille that sits above a wide lower bumper opening. Two large intakes pushed to the edge flank it, which helps airflow to various parts of the car’s performance – brakes, intercooler and radiator. High performance cars generate a lot of heat.

BMW hasn’t announced when it will reveal the new M2, but we expect it to debut sometime this year. It will be one of several M-branded cars arriving this year, joining the M3 Touring, M3 CSL, and XM as newcomers to the lineup. We also know the M2 will spawn a Competition variant and a hotter version of the CS and CSL.
