Once upon a time, Fiat offered a simple minivan called the Ulysse to European buyers. It left the scene in 2010, but now the people mover is back with a new look and an all-electric powertrain. This is Fiat’s second special electric offering after the new 500e, and like the small city car, the e-Ulysse is aimed primarily at the urban market.
Two battery options are available, offering 50 or 75 kWh with a maximum range of 205 miles (330 kilometers) measured in WLTP cycles. The standard edition 100 kW fast charging system can restore 80 percent charge in 45 minutes. The E-Ulysse produces a maximum of 136 horsepower (101 kilowatts) and 192 pound-feet (260 Newton-meters) of torque, and as such, speed is not its forte. Fiat doesn’t offer acceleration statistics, but the top speed is listed as 81 mph (130 km/h).


Such things are unlikely to be a problem for e-Ulysse buyers, which Fiat says could be taxi services, hotels or other fleet companies looking for zero-emissions shuttles. In that sense, this versatile vehicle offers extensive configuration for seven or eight passengers. In the Lounge trim which seats seven passengers, the e-Ulysse can have the second row facing the third row with a folding table in between, leading Fiat to call it a “living room” variant. The eight-passenger configuration (unofficially called the shuttle) adds additional seats in the second row.
In addition to carrying a large number of people, Fiat wanted to emphasize the versatility of the e-Ulysse. There are 12 different configurations for eight seats; that goes up to 16 in seven-passenger specs, and the aforementioned table can be folded into multiple positions. The middle and rear seats are rail-mounted for easy positioning and removal, but with the seats in place, there is still 148 cubic feet (4,200 liters) of available load space. Choose the Long version which is extended to 173 cubic feet (4,900 liters).
For technology, Fiat offers a variety of driver assistance and safety systems for the e-Ulysse. Automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and traffic sign recognition are among those, though Fiat isn’t clear on whether these systems are standard or optional. A 7-inch touchscreen is included on the range-topping model; a panoramic roof with leather seats, xenon headlights, electric rear liftgate and a portable air sanitizing device are also listed among the available options.
Pricing for the new e-Ulysse was not stated, but the van will reach European dealers from May 2022.
