In order to present a clearer picture of the competitive landscape, here we provide sales figures for the Lexus RX. Although the RX is a premium midsize CUV placed in the luxury utility segment D (the space occupied by the Cadillac XT5), Japanese vehicles are now offered in a three-row variant called the RX L, which competes with the three-row luxury model. like the XT6. Since Lexus did not separate sales of the two-line RX from the three-line RXL, not all of the RX’s sales could be applied to the premium three-line CUV segment. Instead, a more appropriate comparison would be to combine sales of the Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac XT6. We’ve also included the Lincoln Nautilus and the Aviator, which are direct rivals to the XT5 and XT6.

Cadillac Society Take

We attribute the substantial decline in Cadillac XT6 sales to a lack of XT6 inventory at dealer level as a result of the ongoing global microchip shortage. In fact, production of the XT6 was suspended at the Cadillac Spring Hill Plant in late August 2021 and didn’t resume until October. When production resumes, it’s for the 2022 model year.

Currently, production is in full swing for the 2022 XT6 model. We expect sales of the Cadillac XT6 to increase as production remains at full capacity, meeting pent-up demand for the luxury crossover. However, while the new XT6 unit rolled off the assembly line, certain features were hidden from the luxury crossover. This includes heated and ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel. Some experts predict that the shortage of microchips could persist into 2022, although it eases in the second half of the year.
