Cadillac Society Take
The Cadillac CT5’s subpar sales performance was a direct result of very low and almost non-existent Cadillac CT5 inventory. Production of the CT5 was stalled at the Cadillac Lansing Grand River plant for most of calendar year 2021 due to an ongoing global microchip shortage, resulting in a severe inventory shortage at dealer level. Assembly only resumed in full for the 2022 model year in October 2021, and many units didn’t reach dealerships in time until the fourth quarter ended.
As production continues at full capacity, we expect sales of the Cadillac CT5 to rebound as the luxury brand meets pent-up luxury sedan demand. In addition, we expect sales of the very high-performance 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing to help boost sales figures, although production figures – which Cadillac did not disclose – appear low.
Despite a return to normal production levels, it’s worth noting that many Cadillac CT5 units currently ship without certain features, also a result of a lack of a microchip. The current luxury sedan cannot be built with the Super Cruise, which features Cadillac’s semi-autonomous driver assistance, along with heated and ventilated seats or certain parking assist features. Withholding these features from the CT5 allowed the luxury marque to continue producing vehicles, and to improve on these features at a later time.
