Earlier this week, GM rival Ford announced its new Product Creation and Industrialization organization, seeking better synergy between its advanced technologies and global industrial teams. It also promises major global product updates, with electrified powertrains available in 90 percent of its vehicle lineup by 2030, as well as plans for the next generation of the Ford F-150 and Ford Super Duty pickups.

According to Ford and outlined by our sister site Ford Authority80 percent of the company’s products in North America will be updated or redesigned, in addition to 70 percent of its global portfolio by sales volume.
The current-generation Ford F-150, which received a comprehensive refresh for the 2024 model year, will remain strong until the new generation arrives in 2029, a little later than originally planned. The new light-duty pickup will launch as a 2028 model, or possibly 2029. We can also expect a similar timeline for Ford’s Super Duty heavy-duty line. The F-150 already offers a hybrid powertrain, and it’s unclear if the Super Duty will get one as well, but that’s expected to happen by the end of the decade.

By 2030, the updated electric architecture will also be installed in 90 percent of Ford vehicles by sales volume, which we assume includes full-size pickups, which make up the majority of its sales in North America. The new architecture is being developed internally, with improvements to over-the-air updates, a faster rollout of the BlueCruise driver assistance system across the vehicle portfolio, and a so-called Ford Digital Experience that will help the development of Level 3 autonomous driving. GM is also working on its next electric architecture, called the Centralized Computing Platform, which will gradually replace Global B or VIP. The Ford pickup may use supercapacitors provided by Clarios.
The Ford F-150 will likely continue to offer a hybrid powertrain, and Ford has stated that it is working on hybrid (HEV), extended-range EVs (EREV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV). However, the next-generation F-150 EV is no longer in production after being delayed, and the current F-150 Lighting was recently discontinued as demand for BEVs has waned over the past year. The next-generation Lightning F-150 will do just that returned as EREV.

In February 2026, GM stated that it had no plans to cancel production of the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. We’re expecting a PHEV or EREV powertrain for the next-generation Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500, although The General hasn’t revealed any details publicly. The latest news shared is that “a handful of hybrids” are coming, but HEV and PHEV strategies have not yet been finalized.
There is one certainty: the next-generation Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 will debut this year, and launch as 2027 models, or at least a year ahead of the next-generation Ford F-150. Meanwhile, the next-generation Silverado HD and Sierra HD are currently expected to launch in 2028 as 2029 models, which may or may not come before the new Ford Super Duty.
