Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC: Price

  • A dealer memo may give away the price of the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC.
  • The base model allegedly starts at $139,990 before fees.
  • Track Pack and Special Edition models are asking $139,990 and $170,970, according to leaks.

Mustang buyers already have some great trims to choose from—from the base EcoBoost model and powerful GT to the extreme GTD. Now the Dark Horse SC joins the lineup, featuring aggressive bodywork and a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 815 horsepower. Unfortunately, getting behind the wheel may not be cheap.

The leaked dealer memo was posted on Facebook by Kelly Aiken from Mustang tuning shop Kelltrac allegedly showing pricing for the upcoming Mustang Dark Horse SC. According to the documents, the car could start at $103,490 before adding a $3,000 fuel consumption tax and a $1,995 destination charge—and that’s just for the base model.

The Dark Horse SC with Track Pack retails for $139,990 before fees, or $36,500 more than the base version. Meanwhile, the Dark Horse SC Special Edition with Track Pack is reported to cost $170,970 before fees, although it’s unclear what the Special Edition includes.

If these numbers are accurate, Ford’s newest pony car will have a pretty steep price tag. But actually it’s not all bad if you look at the competition.

The most obvious comparison to the Dark Horse SC is the Chevrolet Corvette—specifically the Z06. The Z06 starts at $122,795, while the ZR1 starts at $187,495; both prices include fees. That means the Dark Horse SC with Track Pack will cost more than the new Z06—but at least it has 815 horsepower compared to the Z06’s 670 horsepower.

Compared to the Porsche lineup, the Dark Horse SC has more even competition. Prices for track-focused 911s are quickly rising; The 911 GTS now sells for around $181,000, while the Turbo S is closer to $270,000.

You can also compare it to the previous Shelby GT500, which debuted in 2020 with a starting price of around $77,000—roughly $97,000 when adjusted for inflation. By that measure, the Dark Horse SC is not much more expensive.

However, it is important to take these figures with a grain of salt, as the price is still unconfirmed. We’ve reached out to Ford for comment and will update the story when we hear back.

Motorcycle Pickup1: If these numbers prove accurate, the Dark Horse SC will certainly be one of the most expensive Mustangs ever, especially in Track Pack or Special Edition form. But considering its 815-horsepower supercharged V8 engine—and how it stacks up against rivals like the previous Corvette Z06 and GT500—it may not be as expensive as it seems at first glance.
