If you haven’t heard, GM is discontinuing the current generation of the Cadillac CT5 sedan, although the automaker plans to launch a new generation in the US soon after. Meanwhile, the Cadillac CT6 launched in North America with the 2020 model year, and GM opted to launch a second generation for the Chinese market in 2023. And while the two sedans occupy very different positions in Cadillac’s global lineup, a closer look reveals striking similarities in their overall design language.

Starting at the front, the CT5 and CT6 feature signature Cadillac design, with a wide, shield-shaped grille flanked by slim, angular headlights. Vertical lighting elements extend down into the front fascia on both models, while the CT6 features a slightly softer execution, compared to the slightly sportier CT5. Both vehicles also feature a sculpted hood design with a gradual downward slope towards the grille, reinforcing the low, planted position.

Some of the most striking similarities between the Cadillac CT5 and CT6 can be found in their side profiles. Both sedans sport a fastback-inspired silhouette, characterized by a sloping roofline that flows smoothly into a short, slightly upturned trunk lid, a design motif that gives both vehicles a coupe-like appearance, despite their four-door configuration.
Another common element is the distinctive crease of the rear side windows. Positioned just forward of the C-pillar, this detail adds extra visual punch, while the beltline is clean from front to rear, complemented by a subtle character line along the doors.

Viewed from the rear, the similarity continues with the vertically oriented rear lights which seem to mirror the lighting signature seen at the front. Both the CT5 and CT6 feature bold rear fascias with integrated exhaust outlets and relatively short decklids, consistent with their fastback proportions.

Despite their different sales segments and markets, the Cadillac CT5 and CT6 show good consistency in Cadillac’s sedan design language, particularly in terms of profile. Going forward, it will be interesting to see how the language evolves with the new CT5.
