The all-electric 2026 GMC Sierra EV pickup offers owners a variety of driving modes that adjust the truck’s performance, handling and off-road agility to better suit several different driving conditions. From everyday commuting to off-road trails and heavy towing, each mode adjusts key vehicle systems to optimize the truck’s capabilities. Now, GM Authority presents a simple breakdown of what each driving mode does.

Normal Mode

Normal Mode is the default setting for everyday driving in the GMC Sierra EV. It provides a balanced blend of comfort and performance, making it ideal for city streets and highway cruising.

Off-Road Mode

Off Road mode is designed for driving the GMC Sierra EV on loose or uneven surfaces such as dirt, gravel, grass, or snow. In this mode, the Sierra EV adjusts the throttle response and traction system to improve grip and control. It can also modify steering, suspension and braking behavior to better handle rough terrain.

Crane/Transport Mode

Tow/Haul mode is intended for towing heavy loads, adjusting accelerator response, as well as steering and suspension. This helps the GMC Sierra EV feel more stable and responsive when carrying or towing extra weight.

Terrain Mode

Terrain Mode is made for challenging, low-speed environments, including rocky roads or steep, uneven roads. It maximizes torque at low speeds for better control and can even automatically apply light braking to help stop the vehicle. Speed is limited in this mode, and certain features such as cruise control are disabled.

Max Power Mode

Max Power Mode unlocks the truck’s full performance potential for rapid acceleration, increasing motor output and sharpening throttle response. Note that this mode is not intended for continuous use.

My mode

My Mode allows the driver to customize how the truck feels through settings such as throttle response, steering weight, suspension behavior and even interior motor sound. Once set, these preferences remain saved even after the vehicle is turned off.
