With the launch of the next-generation GMC Sierra 1500 scheduled for the 2027 model year, the 2026 GMC Sierra marks the final chapter for the current generation of light pickup, and brings with it a number of small but impactful changes. Now, GM Authority has learned that one of those changes is the discontinuation of one of its exterior color options.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Downpour Metallic (color code GXP) is no longer available to order for the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500. This blue color was first introduced to Sierra’s light-duty lineup with the 2024 model year, and was previously offered on the Elevation, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trim levels for an additional $495.

Looking ahead, it doesn’t look like Downpour Metallic will return as an option for the next-generation Sierra, and in fact, Downpour Metallic isn’t the only paint option being dropped for the 2026 model year – as discussed previously, GMC has also removed Titanium Rush Metallic and Volcanic Red Tintcoat from the available color palette.
Further GM Authority coverage includes a look at the Sierra’s 2026 production schedule, with production of the Double Cab variant set to end on April 2And2026, coinciding with the end of production of the Chevy Silverado 1500 Double Cab. The Sierra is currently assembled at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana and GM Silao Assembly in Mexico.

As for the upcoming 2027 GMC Sierra 1500, expect a series of major changes, including GM’s next-generation Small Block V8 engine and possibly a hybrid variant as well. In addition to the powertrain, the 2027 Sierra will also feature a completely redesigned exterior and updated interior, as well as an updated version of the GM T1 platform, known internally at GM as the T1-2. As usual, GM Authority has been at the forefront of coverage of the next-generation Sierra and Silverado, bringing you spy photos, leaks, and exclusive insight, so check out our previous post to learn more.
