Just last month, we spotted 27 of Chevy’s upcoming Silverado Trail Boss LT undergoing testing. Now, our eagle-eyed spies managed to catch a prototype of the 2027 Silverado Trail Boss Custom.
As the name suggests, the Trail Boss LT is based on the Silverado LT, while the Silverado Trail Boss Custom is based on a Work Truck so it is more affordable while leaving out various features and comfort.

This 2027 Silverado Trail Boss Custom prototype is easily recognized by its grille, which is the same as the 2027 Silverado Work Truck (and, we think, the Silverado Custom). The grille features a double bar with a (disguised) Chevy logo at the top, followed by two horizontal bars with two slats each below. Look closely, and you’ll see the center bar has some minor wardrobe damage, with the camouflage having peeled off.
Beyond the grille, we also see two-stage headlights, with horizontally oriented units at the top of the fascia (just below the grille) housing DRLs that double as turn signals and hazard indicators. In fact, the driver’s side light is in turn signal indicator mode in these photos.

Below, we can clearly see the high-cut front fascia without an air dam, resulting in healthy approach angles and ample clearance. And we can’t see it clearly, but it looks like there’s a skid plate tucked behind the bumper, along with some front tow hooks, covered in camouflage. A set of fog lights adorns the bumper.

Before moving on to the sides, we also want to point out the power-dome style hood, with domes near each edge. Additionally, the roof looks clean without the fin antenna (which handles cellular and satellite radio connections), confirming our suspicion that GM’s new truck will integrate it somewhere else in the body (likely inside the cab-mounted rear spoiler). Note that the whip antenna for terrestrial radio signals is also missing. Make of it what you want.

Moving on to the side of the 2027 Silverado Trail Boss Custom, we see rounded wheel arches and prominent fender flares. There are no running boards on this prototype, which might make entry and exit difficult (current Silverado Trail Boss models get a two-inch lift from the factory).
The camouflaged multi-spoke wheels on the 2027 Silverado Trail Boss Custom are wrapped with a set of 275/65R18 Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT rubber – compatible with today’s 32-inch truck tires.

The side angle also gives us a look at the updated rear-view mirrors, which now have a new shape and mount, along with cooler new DLOs on the rear doors, and a new cabin-mounted spoiler, which likely integrates with the truck’s antenna. Also note the black door handles – which have a new shape for this model.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any photos of this prototype from the rear, but considering the lack of visible side exhausts, we can assume that it features the same quad-tip exhaust outlets seen on other 2027 Silverado testers.
It’s worth noting that this 2027 Silverado prototype matches the striped graphics that appeared in a design patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) back in December, but there are clear differences in the grille and front fascia for this beefier model.

As GM Authority first reported in 2024, the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 will launch this year with a new exterior and interior, plus improvements in technology, comfort and usability. The LTZ trim level will not return, as it will most likely be replaced by the Premier. Two new engines, replacing the 5.7L and 6.6L as part of GM’s Gen 6 Small Block architecture, will debut, while the baby Duramax turbo-diesel engine will remain, and the TurboMax will receive increased power and torque.
