  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 sales rose 14 percent during the first three months of this year.
  • This happened after the US federal government ended subsidies for electric vehicles.
  • Hyundai had its best-ever first-quarter sales results, selling 205,388 vehicles

Since the federal government ended electric vehicle subsidies last September, sales have declined. Consumers can no longer lower the price of new electric vehicles, making them less attractive, but they are not abandoning all models. Sales of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 have actually increased so far this year.

For the first three months of 2026, Ioniq 5 sales rose 14 percent, with Hyundai selling 9,790 of the electric crossover. This number is a slight increase compared to last year, but it is an unexpected increase. Ioniq 6 sales are down 75 percent, but EVs are down most died in the United States.

The brand’s other biggest loser was the Santa Cruz, another model discontinued by Hyundai. Nearly all other models saw sales increase last quarter, resulting in Hyundai’s best-ever first-quarter sales with an increase of 1.0 percent. Hyundai has sold 205,388 vehicles so far this year.
