Hyundai has stopped selling certain trims of the 2026 Palisade. The automaker is preparing to recall 68,500 SUVs in the United States and Canada because the power second- and third-row seats may fail to detect passengers or objects. The recall follows the death of a young child in Ohio on March 7.
Hyundai said in a press release that it “does not yet have complete details and the incident remains under investigation,” while extending its “deepest sympathies to his family.” The recall affects Limited and Calligraphy trim models and covers 60,515 SUVs in the United States and 7,967 in Canada.

The automaker is currently finalizing the details of the recall and will then submit them to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Hyundai is also working to develop a fix for the Palisade and, in the meantime, issued a temporary over-the-air update that will be available in late March.
According to the company, this update will “improve the system’s response to contact with occupants or objects, introduce additional operational protections, and improve overall system security.” Hyundai said it contacted owners via email, phone and otherwise, “advising them to use caution” when operating the seats.

Motorcycle Pickup1: The Hyundai Palisade is a family vehicle, and incidents like this are a nightmare for parents. We hope Hyundai finds a fix soon and repairs the affected vehicles.
