- The Rivian R2 will go on sale this spring in the top-level Performance trim.
- It costs $57,990 to start and features two electric motors producing 656 horsepower.
- The $45,000 entry-level R2 won’t go on sale until late 2027.
When Rivian revealed the R2 a year ago, it said the new electric SUV would be priced at $45,000. That’s still true, but those entry-level variants won’t go on sale until late 2027. Instead, Rivian will start selling the top-end R2 Performance first, which goes on sale as soon as this spring.
The R2 Performance costs $57,990 to start and features two electric motors and all-wheel drive, producing 656 horsepower. Rivian claims the model will hit 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds and offer an estimated range of more than 300 miles.
Twenty-one-inch Sport wheels, semi-active suspension, tow hooks, and yellow brake calipers and accents are standard equipment. Options include 20-inch Adventure alloy wheels, a spare tire, and a towing package. There’s also a Launch Package, available for a limited time, which includes a custom key chain, tow package, and Launch Green paint option.

Going on sale after the R2 Performance is the R2 Premium, a midrange option, arriving in early 2027 and starting at $53,990. It has two motors that produce 500 horsepower, with a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds. It offers many of the same features as the Performance but lacks the semi-active suspension option, and comes standard with 20-inch wheels.
Rivian will offer the R2 Standard in two variants. The Long Range version will arrive sometime in the first half of 2027, with prices starting at $47,900. Its single motor drives the rear wheels and produces 350 hp, giving the SUV a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds and a range of more than 320 miles. Nineteen-inch wheels are standard, with 20-inch wheels optional, along with all-wheel drive.
The $45,000 R2 Standard won’t hit the market until late 2027, according to Rivian. It will have a single motor driving the rear wheels while offering a range of over 265 miles.

Motorcycle Pickup1: The R2 is an important vehicle for Rivian, serving as an entry point, but the cheapest version won’t go on sale for more than a year. Luckily, the R2 Performance doesn’t come with a hefty price tag, but still offers ample power for just under $60,000.
