  • Ram has revived the ProMaster City van for 2027.
  • It is based on the Stellantis mid-sized global commercial van platform that underlies the Citroën Dispatch and others.
  • The 2027 ProMaster City goes on sale a year from now with a potential starting price of under $40,000.

Ram brings back the ProMaster City van. It’s all new for 2027, at least for the United States, and will go on sale a year from now.

It uses Stellantis’ K0 global mid-size commercial van platform, which underlies various models from European automakers, such as the Citroën Dispatch and Opel Vivaro, and the new Ram is nearly identical to both. One of the new features on the van is the Ram wordmark, which will start appearing on all future products.

The new ProMaster is powered by the automaker’s 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces 166 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. This engine is combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission that only drives the front wheels. The van has front MacPherson struts and independent rear arm suspension.

The 2027 ProMaster City measures just under 77 inches, which Ram says will allow it to fit into most urban garages and parking structures. It has a wheelbase of 129.0 inches and offers a turning radius of over 42 feet.

Ram says the van will offer more than 167.1 cubic feet of cargo space, with a 111.1-inch-long load floor, 48-inch rear wheel well and 54-inch cargo height. The space is allegedly large enough to fit two standard US pallets, four-by-eight sheets of plywood, and more.

The step height is 23 inches, and cargo space can be accessed via a 180-degree rear swing door or tailgate. There’s also a standard passenger-side sliding door measuring 36 inches wide by 48 inches high. The vehicle will carry a payload of more than 2,000 pounds, with Ram targeting a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds.

Ready to Work

The ProMaster City is a van designed to function, and its features, or lack thereof, reflect that. Ram will offer the ProMaster City, in Cargo Van and Passenger Wagon layouts, in two trims: Tradesman and SLT. Passenger Trains can accommodate five to eight people.

The Tradesman comes standard with forward collision warning, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, black plastic bumpers and a programmable speed limiter. Inside, the ProMaster has a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The SLT gets a body-colored front bumper with fog lights, a body-colored rear bumper, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, front parking sensors and a wireless phone charger. A heated steering wheel is optional.

Ram will offer the ProMaster City in 11 configurations—six window combinations and six panes with two rear access options. Six exterior colors will be available.

Ram will build ProMaster City in Türkiye. The 2027 Ram ProMaster City will go on sale in the first quarter of 2027. Ram is targeting a starting price of under $40,000.

Motorcycle Pickup1: Ram is discontinuing the ProMaster City after 2022 due to declining sales. It was based on a Fiat van, but was a bit too small for the American market. The new ProMaster City improves on that with a larger size that will appeal to business customers who don’t want or need a full-size van.
