The 2027 model year will usher in the next evolution of GM’s full-size pickup lineup, with the 2027 Chevy Silverado and 2027 GMC Sierra set to debut a slew of major updates. As we’ve covered extensively at this point, the update includes new powertrain options, advanced cabin technology, and a new design, as well as a few other details too numerous to mention here. However, one feature that we think should make the jump from mid-size to full-size is hidden – integrated luggage storage.

Currently offered on the midrange Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, the GMC MultiStow / Chevy StowFlex system is a smart storage solution that can add extra utility to the next-generation Silverado and Sierra. GM first introduced an integrated tailgate storage system for the 2023 model year alongside the launch of its third-generation midsizer, providing a hidden compartment integrated directly into the standard tailgate, offering convenient storage without the more complicated setup of a MultiPro/Multi-Flex tailgate.

This system provides a secure, weatherproof compartment built into the rear door itself. Measuring about 45 inches wide and about four inches deep, this space is ideal for storing tools, straps, or other small equipment. Access is easy: when the rear door is down, users can pull the tabs on either side to open the lid. The compartment can also be locked via a sliding latch and features a drain, so it can handle wet or dirty items easily.
Further touches include a built-in ruler along the rear door edge that adds even more functionality to job site tasks. The feature can even be paired with the available Kicker audio system with weatherproof speakers and amplifier housed inside the rear doors, with Bluetooth, USB and additional connectivity.

In our opinion, not including this is a missed opportunity for the ever-popular full-size Silverado and Sierra, because while the Multi-Flex/MultiPro rear door offers impressive versatility, it doesn’t directly replicate the closed, secure storage provided by the MultiStow and StowFlex. Therefore, adding this feature to the next-generation 2027 Chevy Silverado and 2027 GMC Sierra will improve daily usability without sacrificing bed space or requiring additional accessories.
