2027 GMC Sierra Pro (Base Model) Spied For The First Time

Posted on

We’ve seen the upcoming new 2027 GMC Sierra dressed in eye-catching camouflage in two forms: the luxurious 2027 Sierra Denali and the track-ready 2027 Sierra AT4. Now, our spies have just spotted the next-generation Sierra that will be on the other end of the spectrum: the 2027 GMC Sierra Pro (aka the base model and GMC’s equivalent to the Silverado Work Truck).

The work-focused Sierra 1500 is seen here in Crew Cab Short Bed configuration, and is easily recognized by its simple steel wheels.

The 2027 GMC Sierra Pro prototype underwent testing in April 2026.

Let’s first look at the development of the projecting surfaces of the hood, which consists of two small domes and a larger dome in the center.

The front fascia is equipped with a grille consisting of four bars with two slats each. The GMC logo, although camouflaged, is placed at the top of the grille. On the grille are the headlights – with LED DRLs at the top and the actual headlights, which appear to have LED projectors, below. The shape of the bumper has a higher center section before dipping towards the edges, roughly in line with the outer point of the grille.

Moving to the side of this 2027 GMC Sierra Pro prototype, we see new rearview mirrors on their new mounts, along with a squared-off rear door window, losing the upward kink seen on the current model. The black door handles can be clearly seen, and they appear to have a new shape compared to the current Sierra 1500. The wheel wells still feature a square shape, with the rear clearly lacking wheel linings – giving us a look at the box structure and leaf springs. Note that the roof has a clean look without the antenna fins (which handle cellular and satellite radio connections), confirming our suspicion that GM’s new trucks will integrate them elsewhere in the body (likely inside the cab-mounted rear spoiler). Strangely, the whip antenna for terrestrial radio signals is also missing.

The rear features a set of LED taillights, a standard tailgate (not MultiPro) with a new tailgate release handle (instead of a button), and new shapes for the CornerStep as well as the license plate area. A single exhaust pipe is found on the passenger side, while the tow hitch receiver and spare tire are also clearly visible.

If you noticed that the overall shape and footprint of this 2027 GMC Sierra Pro doesn’t stray too far from the current model, which was introduced for the 2019 model year before being refreshed for the 2022.5 model year, you’d be right. That’s because, as GM Authority first reported in 2024, the current trucks will ride on GM’s T1-2 platform – an evolved version of the T1 platform that powers The General’s current full-size trucks. In other words, the entire bone remains the same.

The 2027 GMC Sierra will offer a new exterior design, new interior, two new GM Gen 6 Small Block V8 engines – one 5.7L and the other 6.6L. The baby Duramax turbo-diesel engine will remain, while the TurboMax will receive power and torque upgrades. There will be plenty of other changes and improvements, so check out our previous coverage if you want to find out more here: GMC Sierra News.
