GMC Dealer Inventory Drops In March 2026

Posted on

Dealer inventories for the GMC brand declined last month, with Big Red closing March with 84 days of supply, compared to 94 days of supply in February 2026. Meanwhile, GMC inventory increased year over year when compared to 74 days of supply in March 2025. With 84 days of supply, GMC is positioned between BMW (also 84 days of supply) and Nissan (85 days of supply) with respect to the broader automotive market.

That’s according to a new report from Cox Automotivewhich stated that inventories increased month-on-month in the broader US market, recorded at 2.89 million units in March. The figure represents a 1.3 percent increase from February and a 6.1 percent year-over-year increase, but the annual comparison was affected by unusual conditions at the start of 2025, where tariff concerns accelerated consumer purchases and temporarily reduced inventory levels.

In general, sales activity picked up again in March, with volume increasing about 36 percent month-on-month. The surge helped push industry-wide days of supply down to 79 days, down from 96 days in February and 94 days in January. Despite the increase in monthly sales, sales were still down 4.8 percent compared to March 2025, and daily supply remained 11.4 percent higher year-over-year.

The average MSRP rose 3.9 percent to $51,456, while the average listing price was listed at $48,667. The average transaction price reached $49,275, marking a 3.4 percent year-over-year increase. Incentive spending also increased, with the industry average increasing to $3,541 per vehicle, equal to 7.2 percent of the average transaction price.

Inventory distribution is uneven across price segments. More affordable vehicles priced under $40,000 continue to face supply constraints, driven in part by 2026 model year product updates and tariff pressures, particularly for models manufactured outside the United States.
