Some Chevy Silverado EV, BrightDrop Missing Battery Plug

Posted on

General Motors has released a new Service Bulletin targeting the all-electric Chevy Silverado EV pickup and the all-electric Chevy BrightDrop delivery van, both of which have potential issues affecting their high-voltage battery systems.

According to Service Update bulletin N252529080, certain units of the Chevy Silverado EV and Chevy BrightDrop pickups may have minor components missing regarding the electrical connections for the battery and drive motor. The Service Update applies to select Chevy Silverado EV units manufactured between the 2024 and 2026 model years, as well as Chevy BrightDrop 400 units manufactured between the 2024 and 2025 model years, and Chevy BrightDrop 600 units manufactured between the 2023 and 2025 model years.

It is important to note that this bulletin is not classified as a recall. Instead, vehicle owners should make sure to complete all related repairs during routine maintenance visits, and should not make a trip to the dealer specifically for this issue.

According to the new bulletin, a small portion of the vehicles referenced may have been manufactured without certain high-voltage connectors in rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS). To correct this problem, the technician is instructed to first check the relevant high voltage connector on the battery and verify that the plug is present and installed correctly. If components are missing or incorrectly configured, they will be replaced using appropriate service parts. Due to the complexity and danger of working on EV battery systems, only technicians with specialized high voltage training are authorized to perform this work.

This update applies to customer-owned vehicles and units currently in dealer inventory. GM indicated that the number of vehicles expected to require new parts is low, with less than two percent of affected units likely requiring such parts.

As a reminder, all Chevy Silverado EV variants use the GM BT1 platform, with some of the powertrain configurations offered providing an estimated maximum driving range of up to 493 miles on a full charge. Production of the Silverado EV takes place at GM’s Factory Zero plant in Detroit. Meanwhile, production of the Chevy BrightDrop ended late last year at GM’s CAMI plant in Ontario, Canada.
