The new 2027 Corvette features a number of important changes, including the launch of the new Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X, as well as the debut of the new Small Block 6.7L V8 LS6. In addition to those headlines, the 2027 Corvette Stingray gets some important updates, including changes to the Z51 Performance Package. Now, GM Authority is taking a closer look.

One of the most significant updates rolling out to the Z51 package for the 2027 Corvette Stingray is the adoption of a shorter final drive ratio of 5.56:1, compared to the 5.17:1 ratio used on Z51-equipped models produced between the 2020 and 2026 model years. For reference, the standard 2027 Stingray continues to run a 4.89:1 ratio, the same ratio as it has since launch.
A shorter final drive ratio is expected to improve acceleration, although General Motors has not released official performance figures. For context, the current C8 Stingray can sprint to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds with the Z51 package.

The Z51 Performance Package offered for the 2027 Corvette also includes revisions to the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. While the base C8 Corvette Stingray uses the M1L transmission, Z51-equipped models get an upgraded M1N unit, which includes a shorter rear axle ratio. Additional improvements include calibration updates for the Magnetic Ride Control suspension, revised aerodynamic elements and new Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tires. Notably, the Z51-equipped 2027 Corvette Stingray and new C8 Grand Sport feature a 5.56:1 rear axle ratio and the same M1N transmission setup.
As was the case previously, the Z51 Performance Package continues to incorporate a full suite of track-focused hardware (relevant RPO codes listed in brackets):
- Z51 (J55) performance brakes
- Z51 (FE3) Performance Suspension
- Rear axle ratio 5.56 (G0K)
- Electronic limited slip differential (G96)
- Eight-speed dual clutch transmission (M1N)
- Z51 rear spoiler (T0A)
- Front separator
- Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires (front 245/35ZR19, rear 305/30ZR20) (QTU)
- Heavy duty cooling system (V08)
Despite the new performance, the Z51 Performance Package is priced at $5,395 for the 2027 model year, down from the $6,345 price tag for the 2026 Corvette Stingray. The price drop is largely due to the performance exhaust system (code RPO NPP), which was previously bundled with the Z51, but is now standard on all 2027 Corvette Stingray models.

Complementing the updates, the 2027 Corvette also introduces a new Small Block 6.7L V8 LS6 engine, which serves as a replacement for the previously equipped 6.2L V8 LT2 engine. The new powerplant is rated at 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, representing a substantial increase in output over the LT2’s 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet (with performance exhaust).
All C8 Corvette variants continue to use the GM Y2 platform, with production taking place at GM’s Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.
