2027 Corvette Stingray Gets This Exhaust System Change

Posted on

The 2027 Corvette Stingray comes with significant hardware updates that change its sound and performance profile. General Motors has made the Performance exhaust system (RPO NPP) standard equipment on all Stingray models, pairing it with the new 6.7L V8 LS6 engine. Several versions of the NPP exhaust system have been around since the 6.2L V8 LS3-equipped C6 came out in 2008, but this is the first time it’s been standard on an entry-level Corvette.

The changes eliminate the usual differences from the previous model year. Previously, C8 Stingray models left the factory with a standard exhaust, while the NPP was optional for $1,195 or bundled into the Z51 Performance Package for $6,345. The output reflects that split. The base car with the LT2 makes 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, while the NPP-equipped variant makes a slight increase to 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet.

By 2027, the gap will disappear. Each Stingray now produces 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, substantial improvements driven by the new LS6 and supported by a standard Performance exhaust. The result is a more uniform lineup with fewer compromises at the entry point.

GM describes this system as producing an aggressive exhaust sound that varies with the selected driving mode. That variability remains intact, allowing the car to change from calm to assertive depending on driver input. The difference is that now buyers no longer need to opt in to access these characters.

The move also aligns the Stingray more closely with the broader Corvette lineup. The new Grand Sport and Grand Sport

These adjustments reflect broader trends in the Corvette lineup. Features that were once considered incremental improvements will migrate to standard specifications, especially when paired with new powertrain hardware. In this case, the exhaust system is no longer a performance accessory; it is an integral part of it.

The 2027 Corvette Stingray is increasingly standing out as a world-class premium sports car, even in its most accessible form. This standardizes the experience, ensuring that every buyer receives the full expression of the platform’s latest engineering.
