300,000 Cars Could Remove Seat Belt Anchors

Hyundai Motor America is recalling 294,128 vehicles due to possible defective seat belts. Affected models may have seat belt retainers that may detach from the vehicle.

The recall impacts the 2023-2026 Genesis G90, 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6, and 2024-2026 Hyundai Santa Fe. According to recall reportThe front seat belts on these vehicles “may not be adequately secured to the seat frame due to damaged snap-on anchors.”

The automaker first became aware of the potential problem in September 2025 and opened an investigation. Over the next several months, Hyundai reviewed its quality control measures and determined that external passenger interactions were not the cause. The automaker concluded that the seat belt anchor may have been damaged during installation, routine maintenance, or repair.

Hyundai said it was aware of six reports related to “inadequately installed seat belt buckles,” but was not aware of any injuries, fatalities or accidents. The automaker will contact owners via first class mail. A service technician will inspect the anchor assembly and add reinforcement repairs or replace the seat belt assembly.
