Ford has issued a recall for 422,613 vehicles. Affected models may have damaged windshield wipers that operate erratically, fail to operate altogether, or detach from the vehicle.

The recall impacts the 2021-2023 Ford Expedition, 2022-2023 Ford Super Duty, and 2021-2023 Lincoln Navigator. Ford issued a remember for some models this year in April 2022 for the same problem, but the automaker recently discovered that it is receiving warranty claims from vehicles beyond the initial production cut-off date.

This defect is related to a combination of problems. According to the recall report, the supplier, Trico, manufactured wipers with an improperly installed retaining plate, which keeps the arm head properly attached to the wiper arm. These bad plates can remove the splines on the wiper arm, reducing functionality and potentially causing visibility problems in bad weather.

Problem Found In January

Ford first learned of the potential problem in January 2026. As part of the automaker’s 2024 consent order with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which requires automakers to review recalls for up to three years, Ford found “an increase in warranty claims for the Expedition and Navigator.”

By February, Ford was investigating the issue and decided to expand the recall to include the Super Duty based on new evidence. It wasn’t until March that the automaker revealed the root of the problem recall report.

As of March 16, Ford said it was aware of 1,538 warranty reports, 11 field reports and three customer service reports related to the issue. However, they are not yet aware of any accidents, injuries or fires.

Ford said it would notify affected owners this month. Ford is still thinking about the repair and inspection process, and will replace wipers that don’t pass.
