Extremely cold weather is known to cause various types of power outages due to weak batteries. In the case of the 2022 to 2026 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV SUVs, this may be the cause of brake problems. In response to these concerns, the automaker has issued a service bulletin.
Symptoms include a Service Engine Soon light, an ABS malfunction warning, and a Service StabiliTrak or Service Brake System message. In particular, indicators like this are quite common in low voltage conditions caused by a weak battery. However, one particular diagnostic trouble code (DTC) may indicate a problem with the Brake System Control Module.

As a result of this error, the driver may also feel a change in the sensation of the brake pedal. According to the service bulletin, the error code is more likely to occur when the temperature drops below -10 degrees Fahrenheit (-23 degrees Celsius). The specific DTC is C055F for 2022 – 2025 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV models. Meanwhile, the DTC for 2026 Escalades is C0597.
If there is a problem with the indicator or brake pedal, dealer technicians are advised to first check for the presence of the codes mentioned above. Since Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, believes the underlying problem may stem from the low-voltage condition mentioned above, technicians must first rule out an electrical problem. This includes testing the battery and replacing it if necessary, as well as checking the battery cables, engine harness or fuse block connections, and battery fuse block connections. Ground connections and fuses should also be checked for signs of corrosion or looseness.

To clarify, the service bulletin applies to all 2022-2026 Escalade and Escalade ESV models, regardless of engine. These include a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel I6 (production code LM2, discontinued after the 2024 model year), a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter engine (production code L87), and a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 (production code LT4), which powers the spicier Escalade-V.
Of course, if your Cadillac Escalade displays any of the trouble codes or unusual brake pedal feel, you should take it to your local dealer for inspection.
