Cadillac and its parent company, General Motors, previously issued a recall for vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions. Now, a new recall adds the 2022 Cadillac Escalade to the list of affected models. Between this incident and the engine recall announced last year, Escalade owners have really been through it.
This latest recall impacts approximately 3,600 regular-size Cadillac Escalade SUVs and 2,250 long-size Escalade ESVs. Notably, the total number of GM vehicles included in the recall is approximately 44,000, although only about one percent is estimated to show the defect, which is related to the transmission control valve.

In particular, transmission control valves can wear to the point of failure, causing undetected leaks within the valve body. A vehicle is likely to experience rough shifting after a valve failure, although this condition is extremely dangerous as it can cause the rear wheels to lock up if left untreated, drastically increasing the chances of an accident.
To address customer concerns, Cadillac instructed dealer technicians to perform a software update for the transmission control module (TCM). In doing this, the TCM will monitor the transmission control valves for signs of excessive wear before the wheels lock. If the system detects excessive wear, it will trigger power reduction mode and limit the transmission to fifth gear. Detection should occur approximately 10,000 miles before valve failure.

Considering transmission control valves seem prone to premature failure, some may feel that this repair is more of a band-aid than an actual repair. While this provides a safety net and reduces the risk of accidents, previous reports suggest that the automaker will actually release a special coverage program for vehicles with faulty control valves, as detected by newly installed software.
Meanwhile, concerned owners can run the software for free. Formal owner notification letters are expected to begin on March 30th2026, but dealer notifications have already been sent.
