The Cadillac XT6 was praised by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for its accident prevention and safety features, earning the organization an award Best Choice+ Security Award in the Medium Luxury SUV category.
The Top Safety Pick+ award represents the highest level recognized by the IIHS for accident prevention and safety features, ranking above vehicles awarded the Top Safety Pick Award. To be eligible for Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must meet several criteria. For starters, the vehicle should have rated well in a variety of crash tests, including the driver’s side small front overlap, moderate front overlap, and original side and roof strength, along with head restraint tests. The vehicle must also perform well in forward collision prevention testing with vehicle-to-vehicle impact, as well as vehicle-to-pedestrian impact. They should also feature exemplary headlight performance.
The Cadillac XT6 performed well in all of the areas mentioned above, scoring very well in crash tests that tested the performance of the luxury crossover in a direct impact, as well as on the passenger side. The XT6 exhibits minimal risk for passenger and driver injury in the event of an accident.
The Cadillac XT6 2022 is equipped with a number of active safety features to help prevent accidents from occurring. The luxury crossover meets IIHS requirements for forward collision warning, avoiding collisions at both 12 mph and 25 mph, thanks to features included in the optional Driver Assistance Package. Available on Premium Luxury and Sport trims (but not on base Luxury trims), the Driver Assistance Package adds Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Seat Belt Fastening, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking and Automatic Reverse Braking.
The Cadillac XT6 is also known for its headlight performance. IIHS studied the XT6 Sport and XT6 Premium Luxury, each equipped with an uplevel Premium Headlight System, noting that “on a straight road, visibility is good on the right side of the road and fair on the left,” but “low beams created some glare.” The organization also noted that high-beam assist (IntelliBeam) “compensated for some of the vehicle’s low beam limitations in straights, in both left-hand and step-right turns” of its test path.
Other Top Safety Pick+ Award winners for the Midsize Luxury SUV category are Acura MDX and RDX, Audi Q5, Genesis GV70 and GV80, Hyundai Nexo, Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, Tesla Model Y, and Volvo XC60 and XC90.
