The Honda CR-V is the brand’s best-selling model, and a sixth-generation version is in development. Spy shots first caught the crossover a year ago, and Honda has yet to reveal a redesigned model. However, patent images published last month allegedly show what the vehicle looks like, which looks unattractive. New unofficial renderings from TopElectricSUV.com add some life to the design.
The rendering replaces the drab grayscale of the patent image with a dark blue exterior that brings style to life. The color accentuates the contours of the car around the lower doors, and gives more definition to the front end and bonnet. Following the trend of Civic styling, the face of the next-gen CR-V looks simpler than the model it replaces. The CR-V also looks more mature.

The renders also add a touch of chrome to the front end, grille and greenhouse, while the black plastic around the underbody and spoiler adds a bit of contrast to the overall design. One thing patent drawings and renderings fail to convey is the size of the vehicle. The new CR-V is expected to grow in size compared to the previous model as the smaller HR-V also grows in size.
We haven’t seen a patent image of the rear, and Honda has hidden it well. However, one patent image that we reveal is that the model’s tall taillights are not going away with the new design. They’re invisible in spy shots, but it’s easy to imagine their designs hiding under camouflage.
Another thing the rendering can’t convey is the powertrain. Spy shots have caught the car with dual exhaust tips, but it’s not at all clear what will drive the new model. Honda could offer a crossover with an electric powertrain, and there are rumors that an electric version will be introduced once the new crossover becomes available.
Honda has been tight-lipped about the new CR-V, and has yet to announce a debut date. We expect Honda to reveal it this year with a view to selling it in the US for the 2023 model year. We expect Honda to start removing some of the camouflage that led up to the CR-V reveal.
