China’s Audi A7L Is A Sedan Based On A Liftback Based On A Sedan

The second generation Audi A7 was launched in 2017 and has been on sale globally since the first half of 2018. It is based on Volkswagen’s MLB Evo platform and shares many components with the A6 and A8. In fact, the A7 is a more luxurious liftback alternative to the A6, at least in Europe and the United States. If you’re in China, there’s a new version of the rival BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and that’s… a sedan.

The Audi A7L made its official debut in April last year as the stretched A7 in the traditional three-box shape. With the A7 being essentially a liftback version of the A6 sedan, this means the A7L is a sedan based on a sedan based liftback. Yes, it may sound very strange at first glance, but actually the long-wheelbase A7 looks very good as a new video from Wheelboy车轮哥 show. You may be wondering what the difference in dimensions is between the A7L and A6 in China. At 199.8 inches (5.076 millimeters), this majestic sedan is just a few millimeters longer than the Chinese A6 (197.32 inches/5,012 mm). The same goes for the wheelbase, which is 119.1 in (3,026 mm) for the A7L versus 115.94 in (2,945 mm) for the A6. The car is shorter than the standard A8, but the wheelbase is actually slightly longer than that of the non-LWB A8.

The interior of the A7L is not much different from the A7 we know in the US and Europe, although the extended wheelbase has a positive effect on the rear passenger area. The important thing that the channel presenters point out is that the vehicles are not equipped with the rich standard equipment as most of the cool gadgets are extra options. Some of the things you have to pay extra for in China include cordless phone chargers, adaptive cruise control, refrigerated and massage chairs, and more.

The A7L is available in China with a choice of 2.0 and 3.0 liter turbocharged petrol engines with different outputs. The most powerful variant, shown in the video, has 3.0 TFSI with 335 horsepower (250 kilowatts), mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0-62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) takes just 5.6 seconds. The A7L is manufactured by the SAIC-Audi joint venture and is sold only in China.
