General Motors has introduced a series of updates for the GMC Hummer EV SUV in conjunction with the 2026 model year, with the headlines being the launch of a new Carbon Fiber Edition and an exclusive Magnus Gray Matte exterior finish. While this special edition brings added visual drama and new performance credentials, the all-electric SUV also delivers important utility. Now, GM Authority is taking a closer look at the towing capacity of the 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV.
The towing capacity of the 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV varies between the 2X dual-motor trim and the 3X tri-motor trim. The highest tow rating goes to the Hummer EV SUV 2X, which tips the scales at up to 10,000 pounds, or 4,536 kilograms, when equipped with a 20-module battery and 4WD drivetrain. Adding the Z6X Extreme Off-Road Package reduces that figure to 7,500 pounds, or 3,402 kilograms.
Meanwhile, the 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV 3X weighs 7,500 pounds or 3,402 kilograms, whether equipped with the Z6X Extreme Off-Road Package or not. Notably, this means the Hummer EV SUV 3X matches the 2X’s off-road-equipped maximum trailer weight, despite offering a more powerful three-motor setup.

GM also recommends that owners break in their new electric SUVs by driving at least 500 miles before towing, and being careful not to drive more than 80 km/h or initiate full throttle in the first 500 miles of towing. GM also recommends turning off some onboard driver aids when towing a trailer, including Park Assist, Reverse Automatic Braking, and Lane Change Alert.
As a reminder, the Hummer EV SUV uses the GM BT1 platform, with the 2X trim making 570 horsepower and the 3X trim making 830 horsepower. Production of the 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV is again underway at the GM Factory Zero factory.
