2027 Corvette ZR1, ZR1X Lose This Roof Option

Posted on

The 2027 Corvette ZR1 comes with fewer boxes to check. One of them is electrochromic roof panels. After debuting in the 2026 model year, the dimmable glass roof (RPO CF8) was not implemented on the 2027 Corvette ZR1 or its hybrid version, the ZR1X.

Chevrolet is introducing electrochromic panels as a $3,000 option on the 2026 Corvette coupe variant. This feature allows drivers to adjust the tint level of the sunroof at the touch of a button, switching from clear to opaque without physical shading. It is positioned as a comfort and technology upgrade, especially for buyers who prefer the coupe body style but want more control over cabin light and heat.

In practice, availability tells a different story. This option faces major obstacles through the 2026 model year. The ordering guide lists it, but provides limited actual versions. At this time, it is unclear how many 2026 Corvette ZR1 or ZR1X will leave the factory with the electrochromic roof installed. Dealers reported sporadic allocations, and some orders were forced to proceed without them.

For 2027, Chevrolet appears to have simplified the ordering landscape for its top-performance Corvette. The electrochromic roof was absent from the ZR1 and ZR1X order sheets, although it continued on other Corvette variants. Notably, the price for this feature has increased to $3,500 when available, indicating higher component or supplier costs.

This decision is in line with a broader pattern seen across low-volume, high-performance trims. Limited or complex options are often overlooked in favor of prioritizing build consistency. In the case of the ZR1 and ZR1X, both models pushed the limits of Corvette engineering with increased power, cooling demands and special components. Removing features with low take rates and limited inventory will reduce variability in the pipeline.

Chevy has not issued an official statement regarding the removal. However, this move shows a focus on execution over option proliferation. For buyers, the tradeoff is easy: fewer customization options in exchange for a clearer production pipeline.
