Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Output Revealed

Posted on

Ford has announced output numbers for the new Mustang Dark Horse SC, pushing the modern pony car formula up to nearly 800 horsepower and leaving open the question of how the next-generation Chevy Camaro will be able to compete.

As our sister publication reports, Ford AuthorityThe Dark Horse SC builds on the already track-focused Dark Horse formula with new hardware upgrades that deliver 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque from a supercharged 5.2L V8 engine. This places the new Dark Horse SC just slightly below the Ford Mustang GTD, which is rated at 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, while exceeding the output of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Like the GT500, the Dark Horse SC uses a Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

According to Mark Rushbrook, the Dark Horse SC was developed in parallel with the new Mustang GTD and Mustang GT3 race cars. The aim is to provide a road-legal package with lessons learned from endurance racing, bridging the gap between motorsport and production performance vehicles. This approach is evident not only in the powertrain, but also in the chassis upgrades, which include forged suspension links, a magnesium strut tower brace, upgraded tie rods and a new steering rack.
