Here’s When C9 Corvette Production Will Start

With the recent debut of the new C8 Grand Sport, Chevrolet has indicated that it has no other model variants for the eighth-generation sports car, limiting the lineup to the Stingray, Grand Sport, Grand Sport X, Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X (the new Grand Sport Of course, this makes us turn our attention to what will be coming next, namely the All New C9 Corvette. Now, GM Authority has learned exclusive details about what to expect from the ninth-generation Vette, specifically its launch schedule.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the C9 Corvette is currently scheduled to enter production in calendar year 2029. This timing would align with a planned public debut at the end of calendar year 2028, as well as an official launch for the 2030 model year. Of note, this marks a shift from previous reports pointing to a 2029 model year launch.

Interestingly, we’ve already seen potential renders of the new C9, so check it out for more. Additional details are still scarce, but for now, the C9 Corvette is expected to retain some form of internal combustion, and company president Mark Reuss stated in a podcast last year that making an all-electric Corvette wouldn’t be easy. During the podcast, Reuss cited weight, packaging and driving dynamics as critical components for a Corvette sports car, all of which could be compromised with an all-electric powertrain.

Nevertheless, rumors that GM will expand the Corvette brand to include several all-electric models have long been circulating, with the possibility of sedans and crossovers being considered. This high-performance electric vehicle will compete with the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, and in fact, GM has released several concepts imagining what an electrified Corvette might look like.
