Subaru has launched its fourth electric vehicle, a three-row SUV called Getaway. It will go on sale later this year, offering a range of more than 300 miles.

Every Getaway will come standard with two electric motors, one on each axle, rated at 420 horsepower. Subaru says the EV is capable of accelerating to 60 miles per hour in less than 5.0 seconds, has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, and offers 8.3 inches of ground clearance.

The long-range model will go on sale first, featuring a 95.8 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery with 150 kilowatt charging. The EV can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes and features the North American Charging Standard that provides access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

The standard range model will go on sale in the first half of 2027 with a 77.0 kWh battery. The Getaway is available in the same package size as the new Toyota Highlander EV, and the two look nearly identical, but the Subaru makes more power. Subaru is partnering with Toyota to jointly develop several electric vehicles, including the Getaway.

Stand Out As a Subaru

Despite its similarities to the Toyota, the Subaru features an illuminated brand logo, which is standard on every Getaway, and distinctive headlights. At the rear, Subaru differentiates its electric vehicle from Toyota with an illuminated Subaru logo between the taillights. Roof rails are standard, with 19- or 20-inch wheels, depending on trim.

Inside, the Getaway looks identical to the Highlander EV. The dashboard, steering wheel and center console are indistinguishable. The Subaru comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.0-inch infotainment screen, 15-watt wireless charging, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Heated seats are standard, with second- and third-row heated seats available. Ventilated front and second-row seats, as well as a heated steering wheel, are also offered on select trims. This EV can accommodate up to seven people, with three-zone climate control, third-row ventilation, and USB-C chargers in each row.

The 2027 Subaru Getaway goes on sale in late 2026. The automaker will release pricing details closer to its on-sale date, but we expect the EV to go on sale in the mid-to-high $40,000 price range, sitting above the Trailseeker.

Motorcycle Pickup1: Subaru’s fourth electric SUV may look a lot like the Toyota, but it has more power and comes standard with all-wheel drive. This might be a big enough differentiator to stand out from the new Highlander EV.
