- Buick may return to the sedan segment.
- General Motors is developing “several variants” of its sedan platform that will underpin the next-generation Cadillac CT5.
- Buick hasn’t sold a sedan in the United States since the Regal was discontinued after 2020.
Buick hasn’t sold a sedan in the United States since 2020, when the automaker stopped production of the last Regal (though the nameplate remains in China). But now, a new report suggests that Buick may be returning to the segment.
Previous rumors suggest General Motors will continue to offer at least two sedans after the Cadillac CT4 dies—one of which is the next-generation GT5, which will use the Alpha 2 platform. The other could be a Buick, according to sources who spoke with it GM Authority.

GM is allegedly developing “several variants” of its new sedan platform, but it’s unclear what that means. We know the platform will feature combustion power, but that’s about it. There may be a form of electrification as well, as automakers shift from developing electric vehicles to hybrid vehicles.
We know GM will build the next generation CT5 at its Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan, where they make the CT4/5. With the CT4 being discontinued, there should be production capacity available for Buick or another GM brand to make a sedan. Maybe a new Chevrolet Impala?
Outside the United States, Buick has a strong sedan portfolio. It continues to sell the Verano Pro, Real, and LaCrosse in China.
Motorcycle Pickup1: We’re always excited about the possibility of a new sedan, but one from Buick is particularly interesting. The brand may not sell any cars in the United States currently, but it has found success with its crossovers and SUVs.
