In December 2021, Toyota dropped something surprising by announcing all kinds of new electric vehicles in the works. Among them were several models with the Lexus badge, and among— that is a low-key sports car with a long bonnet, short deck and beautiful profile. Now, Lexus is offering a better look at the car with a new set of photos.
It’s a long way from fully revealing what Lexus has in store for its swoopy performance EV, but we got a glimpse of the sports car from all angles. There are clear similarities to the iconic LFA supercar from 10 years ago, though some might argue that the nose looks more like something from McLaren. Viewed from the side, we see how long and low the two seats are, giving off a Toyota Supra vibe. The steep rear has no rear window, perhaps using the camera to give the driver a view of what’s behind. This is connected to a thick taillight housing in the rear fascia that is not cut off by the exhaust tip, as this sucker is electric.
Surprisingly, Lexus did not call this vehicle a concept. In that case, it hasn’t been officially called anything yet. The luxury brand simply refers to this as the electric sports car of the future, or the next generation sports car depending on what you prefer. There are no details on the powertrain, but Lexus says it will accelerate from 0-60 mph in a low two-second span.
It sounds more like hypercar territory as opposed to just a sports car, but such acceleration capabilities suggest it will be an all-wheel-drive machine. It also has a claimed range of over 400 miles on a charge, but like other details, battery specifications are not offered.
Lexus is charging forward (pun intended) with electrification plans and hopes to have a broad portfolio of EVs available by 2030. The sports car shown here is part of that plan, with Lexus stating the sports car “symbolizes the future of the Lexus brand as well as brings life to life.” back to the iconic Lexus LFA spirit.”
