For the first time, the motorsport division of Audi Sport joins the famous Dakar Rally with a shiny new competitor: the RS Q E-Tron. Officially launched this month, this rally racer was born to conquer a variety of challenging terrain – far from the recently launched R8 LMS GT3 Evo II for asphalt.
Despite its unconventional shape, the RS Q E-Tron made headlines with its atypical electric drivetrain setup that involved the use of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder TFSI engine. The ICE engine works like a generator to charge the battery, much like the Nissan e-Power hybrid works.

With two electric motors driving each axle, the Audi RS Q E-Tron can produce up to 670 horsepower (500 kilowatts) beyond Dakar Rally regulations. How does it perform in a drag race on asphalt?
To show, carwow puts the Audi RS E-Tron GT against rally racer RS Q E-Tron in a drag race. Both are day and night in many ways but there are similarities too. In particular, the Audi EV on the road also produces over 600 hp from the two electric motors, and both run on four legs.
The RS Q E-Tron rally race has a slight advantage in terms of weight, being slightly lighter than the RS E-Tron GT by 168 pounds (76 kilograms). However, the former comes with a set of protruding tires, which is a drawback over its Porsche Taycan cousin in terms of traction on asphalt.
