Honda Civic Type R Wagon Rendering Imagines The Impossible

Since the Honda Civic Type R was introduced in 1997, the red-badged performance car has always been available as a hatchback – mostly as a three-door then as a five-door from 2015 onwards. That was, of course, with the exception of the FD2 in 2007. For the first time, the Civic Type R was sold as a sedan based on the eighth-generation model, which was available exclusively in Japan.

But one thing is for sure – the Civic Type R was never sold as a station wagon. Now that the Honda Civic Type R FL5 2023 is out and about, X-Tomi Design imagined the impossible – a Civic car with the coveted red badge and performance.

X-Tomi Design’s interpretation of the Civic Type R FL5 is shown at the top of this page. Unofficial renderings show the roof being extended to give the compact car a more upright rear window. There is also added practicality, seen in a pair of roof rails and an increase in cargo volume on the Honda record.

Although, one could argue that this is just a regular hatchback rather than a wagon, and we tend to agree on that. But with a sporty character that can match the aggressive attitude of the Audi RS4 Avant, we have no complaints at all.

To be fair, the regular Honda Civic was available as a station wagon until its ninth generation model. Sold as a Touring model in Europe and other parts of the world, Honda stopped making estate versions with the tenth generation model. We don’t expect the long-roof version to return anytime soon, even more so with the Type R badge.

But if the Civic Type R made a surprising debut in the years to come, would you even consider buying it? BMW did it with the first M3 Touring; maybe it’s time for Honda to consider making one too.
