2023 Cadillac Lyriq Surround Vision Recorder Not Functional At Launch

The Cadillac Lyriq 2023 will have the necessary hardware for the Ambient Vision Recording System, which places multiple cameras around the vehicle to record video of its surroundings. Cadillac Society now know that the technology won’t work on Lyriq launch.

Instead of working right away, the Surround Vision Recording System will require a software update to work. In the same vein, the Lyriq will require a software update to activate Super Cruise, Cadillac’s semi-autonomous driver assistance system, so it’s not entirely out of the ordinary. At this time, it’s unclear when that software update will be available, or why the luxury brand has chosen to delay Ambient Vision Recorder functionality.

When activated, the Surround Vision Recording System makes it possible to record footage from the four exterior cameras that are seamlessly integrated into the body. There are two cameras in the outside mirrors, one inside the front “grill”, and the other one placed in the elevator door.

The front and rear cameras can record footage while the Lyriq is in motion, while the four cameras can be used as a security measure when the vehicle is parked. These recordings are then saved and can be transferred to a computer, or viewed live on the Lyriq infotainment center screen.

As a reminder, the Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition 2023 is offered exclusively in the Luxury trim level with rear-wheel drive. Later models, however, will be available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Power output is rated at 340 horsepower for the RWD model and 500 horsepower for the AWD model. Prices for the Lyriq Luxury RWD start at $62,900, while the Lyriq Luxury AWD starts at $64,900. A wider range of trim levels, such as Premium Luxury and Sport, are expected to arrive for the 2024 model year.
