A Twitter user in Japan managed to snap a photo and video of a Civic Type R model after crash testing, according to the post. The photo even looks good on the exhaust pipe and rear suspension.
The image shows a sealed Civic Type R. A hole in the tarp exposed part of the hind wing. Apart from that, the rear bumper and diffuser are fully visible. You can see how the single exhaust pipe splits into three sections at the rear. Unlike the current Civic Type R, the outlets in the center are larger than those on the sides. The tip has a smooth finish.
In the video, the cars are also under the tarp. Even under the cover, you can see that each of these vehicles has had their fronts crushed from a crash test.
The new Civic Type R comes exclusively as a five-door hatchback. It features an aggressive front end with trapezoidal openings in the lower fascia and a larger top grille between the headlights than the Civic variant. Honda has kept the powertrain of the new Civic Type R a secret. All reports so far suggest that it is an evolution of the existing 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The new Civic Type R will debut in Europe in June. Currently, we expect the launch to take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed which runs from Thursday, June 23, through Sunday, June 26. The pre-production Civic Type R has broken front-wheel drive lap records around the Suzuka circuit in Japan.
